The Spearhead Africa Infrastructure Fund (SAIF), managed by Spearhead Africa Asset Management, is the first listed infrastructure fund on the Nairobi Securities Exchange. It invests in a diversified portfolio of senior debt financing private-sector-led infrastructure projects across East Africa, supporting sectors including renewable energy, digital infrastructure, logistics and electrification.
MOBILIST anchored the listing alongside prominent Kenyan institutional investor Country Pension Fund, helping to de-risk the transaction, build investor confidence and attract broader domestic participation from institutional investors and individuals.
SAIF’s listing created an entirely new listed asset class, making infrastructure debt accessible to both institutional and retail investors for the first time. A lack of listed infrastructure vehicles means that Kenyan pension funds have limited opportunities to invest in local infrastructure development.
SAIF addresses this gap by providing pension funds and other investors with a transparent, liquid investment vehicle that aligns with their long-term investment objectives while supporting economic development.
By offering long-dated infrastructure financing in Kenyan shillings, SAIF also removes foreign exchange risk. This lowers finance costs for project sponsors and aligns with the investment horizon of the underlying infrastructure opportunities, helping unlock investment in essential infrastructure across the region.
